THE LEARNING GARDEN

Activity based gardening and environment classes following a Green Curriculum in an organic patch and classroom, which also becomes a nature-lab to observe, learn and experiment with eco-devices.

ENVIRONMENT IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

The development of projects which tackle specific environmental issues identified by students. Students will learn environmental monitoring, decision-making, design of solutions, and their implementation, while working with school management.

SCHOOL SYSTEMS

Depending on priorities a school system sets for itself, implementation may be scaled-up in stages or as a full-fledged programme across the network. This mainly happens through training activities and support mechanisms, which are provided across the school network. Scaling-up usually involves learning from pilot schools, and expanding to other schools in calculated stages, while increasing capacity to perform well.

TRAINING & BUILDING CAPACITY

Workshops on environment topics with teachers, school managers and students, to bring ideas into practice.  Topics include curriculum integration, do-it-yourself DIY skills, Open Source OS projects, electronics, supplemented by films and other support materials on climate change, urban farming, waste, water, energy, pollution and transport. Ongoing classroom instructions and monitoring for teachers to ensure good practice.

MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT

Open Source materials for teachers and students, such as teaching guides, student worksheets, a Green Curriculum, books, exhibits and films, website resources, and workshop kits, which can be shared with anyone. Many will be available on the website.

DOCUMENTATION & CONTINUAL IMPROVEMENT

Documentation and review of activities is built into the programme in order to improve and sustain activity.
